AR Weather App Customized for Outdoor Work Activities and Professions

Our client, SWORAD, approached us with the need to develop a mobile application that could display their meteorological measurements in 3D (as Augmented Reality). With their two proprietary radars generating a wealth of data, currently processed and presented in 2D, they aimed to push the boundaries further. They envisioned an app tailored for everyday users, showcasing the data in 3D and serving as a promotional tool for their radar products.

The biggest challenge in this project was processing all the data and presenting it in a way that ordinary users could understand, enabling them to extract useful weather information from the data.

We developed a comprehensive mobile application for our client, currently serving users in specific locations across Slovakia. The app:

• Displays cloud information in both 2D and 3D (via AR), offering detailed insights into cloud cores, including their direction, speed, distance, and altitude.
• Provides a 50-minute weather forecast.
• Sends notifications about hazardous weather phenomena (strong winds, heavy rain, hail, snowstorms, etc.).

A significant advantage is that the client's radars provide extremely precise cloud information, surpassing the accuracy of most meteorological stations in Slovakia. This allows, for example, farmers to make better-informed decisions based on highly accurate data.

The MySkyWatch mobile application is intended for everyone engaged in outdoor activities, and professionals working outdoors, including farmers, river swimmers, or individuals organizing outdoor events and celebrations.

We also addressed integrations with other third-party tools:
• Mapbox
• Firebase

Before embarking on development, our standard practice involves meticulous design planning for the solution. This encompasses the visual appearance of the mobile application (UI), its user experience (UX), and the overall functionality and architecture of the entire system.

The client holds a digital product in their hands—a mobile application provided to users in Slovakia. This app enables users to access all relevant weather data, aiding them in making informed decisions and simplifying their lives, all for a monthly subscription fee.

For the MySkyWatch project, plans include expanding the coverage to encompass the entire territory of Slovakia, providing weather forecasts for the entire country. With more data, we will be able to make more accurate predictions.

Simultaneously, the client possesses a promotional tool through which they can demonstrate the data collected and provided by their proprietary radars. This opens avenues to secure investments from various entities such as farmers, and professional outdoor athletes, for the further production, installation, and operation of additional radars, expanding coverage to new territories.
